The person we're looking for

We’re looking for a Senior Design Researcher - Physical Products, who brings prior experience in leading and managing design research projects, contributes to the development of research strategy, and provides mentorship to junior researchers. with extensive experience in physical product research and industrial design collaboration. This role requires a deep understanding of physical product development processes and the ability to lead research initiatives that directly inform industrial design decisions.

Job Overview

As a Senior Design Researcher - Physical Products, you will spearhead design research efforts for external and internal research projects, working in close partnership with our industrial design team. Your expertise in researching tangible products will be crucial in shaping our design process and outcomes. You'll also mentor junior researchers, fostering a culture of excellence in physical product research.

Some things you will be responsible for:

  • Leading research initiatives that directly inform and enhance industrial design processes for physical products.
  • Collaborating intimately with our Industrial Design team to identify challenges, rationalize solutions, and drive innovation in tangible product development.
  • Developing and executing research strategies specifically tailored for physical products across various industries and product categories.
  • Effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams, contributing your research expertise to guide and mentor junior researchers.
  • Being an expert in a wide range of user research methods and being able to create innovative research strategies and methodologies.
  • Designing and executing complex research studies.
  • Analyzing data, recognizing patterns, and understanding user behavior based on data.
  • Storytelling and influencing design decisions through research insights.
  • Mentoring and training others in best practices in design research.
  • Setting research agendas and aligning them with business goals.
  • Mastering research and analytics tools and adapting to new tools and technologies.
  • Advocating for and maintaining the highest level of quality and rigor in all research efforts and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, or Research-Related Field.
  • 6+ years of experience in a User Research or Human Factors Engineering role.
  • Experience with user experience (UX) design principles.
  • Experience working with Industrial Designers and/or Architects on physical design programs.
  • Comfortable going beyond digital design to work on physical and experiential design projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Proactive and positive attitude.
  • Active interest to learn and develop.
  • Comfortable working with clients.
  • Comfortable leading a team of other design researchers.
